The Most Exciting Advances In Health Care Will NOT Be In The US -- But Asia and Russia

Write To Karl Loren About This Page

Source:  Original Article

Some fascinating news items have come to my attention over the past year.

I'd like to tell you about them.

There a type of reasoning, not often acknowledged, called "inductive reasoning." This is the type of reasoning that goes from one observed datum and induces what further facts might arise from the one fact.  This would be in contrast to "deductive reasoning" where one observes many pieces of data and deduces what might be a common source of them all -- a guiding principle.  Both are useful technologies of logic, but deductive reasoning is more commonly used.

When you use "inductive reasoning" you always have the risk that your one observed datum is NOT a single guiding principle, but nothing more than a random observation.

Many people distinguish between two basic kinds of argument: inductive and deductive. Induction is usually described as moving from the specific to the general, while deduction begins with the general and ends with the specific; arguments based on experience or observation are best expressed inductively, while arguments based on laws, rules, or other widely accepted principles are best expressed deductively.  (Source -- Also, there is a self-test on this linked page where you can test your understanding of these terms.)

So, I have some very specific data to report to you, and from these small amounts of data I am willing to generalize that health care in Russia and China will advance well beyond the success rate we currently enjoy in the United States.  I say "enjoy" because the usual consensus in the US is that our medical care system is the most advanced in the world.  I happen to think otherwise -- hence this article.  I think the doom of orthodox medical care, based on man-is-mud, drugs and "chemical imbalances in the brain" technology, that "care" is soon to enter a demise.

Some of my specific observations are, themselves, general, but probably not generally objectionable:

Now it is time to look at these tiny observations and see if you can agree with me that inductively reasoning from them supports the general rule that health care will improve in Russia and China while get more expensive and less helpful in Western Society.

The first is a landmark study done in China.  For many years the number one "treatment" for woman's breast cancer has been "self examination."  In other words, the traditional view in the West is that the woman must learn how to do self-exams of her own breasts and then report to the doctor when and as she finds something suspicious.

There is even a national organization to promote breast cancer self-examination.  In the US every woman has heard the story, from her doctor and others -- that it is very vital for the woman to engage in breast self-exam. That question was taken up in China not too long ago.

The Chinese are not so much concerned with covering up their own lies on cancer treatment.  They are more interested in solving the problem.  If you want to SOLVE the problem you would also have to look at the cost of the solution compared to the results.  In China they decided to try this "American" technique of self-exam. They worked hard to educate some 250,000 Chinese woman on the technology of "self-examination."  The conclusion was that it is not worth the time -- that it is a waste of time. That is the report directly from China, quoted below.

Now, the American Cancer Industry is very big business -- it is NOT concerned with preventing or curing cancer, but only use it as a cash cow to give the researchers, drug companies, and doctors a continuing source of money.  So, they have a different reason.  They need some excuse to blame the woman for her cancer -- so that the Cancer Industry doesn't get blamed for failure.

So, in America, and other so-called "Westernized and modern medical areas," they don't want to hear that self exam is worthless.  They want the woman to try this useless technique.  She will fail to find the cancer. Then, when some doctor finds it, with his better technology, he can shake his head and nod grimly.  "You didn't do your self exam!" to the poor woman. When she protests that she did it?  He then simply says, "Well, you didn't do it right because here is the cancer -- right here.  You missed it."

In our Western Societies the doctors and drug companies know, in their hearts, that their so-called treatments for breast cancer don't work. They can't admit failure on this, so the invent a way to blame the victim.  The woman is to blame because she did not do the self-exam at all, or well enough.  She is to blame for the fact that "now it is too late."

So in the US and Western countries, the Chinese announcement below is truly bad news, even if it is completely true.

Instead of embracing the truth of it, they spout out more lies, as this quote:

The Journal of the National Cancer Institute recently published the results of a Chinese study discouraging women from practicing breast self exams, citing a BSE may not reduce the risk of death from breast cancer. Coverage of the story has been confusing and may mislead women to neglect practicing good breast health. (source)

Study Shows Breast Self-exam is Unproven

A major effort to teach self-examination so women could detect early, small lumps of a developing breast cancer did not reduce the rate of breast cancer deaths, suggesting the technique is a waste of time for doctors and patients, according to a study of more than 260,000 women in China. There is a great deal of awareness, within the drug industry, that per-capita spending for drugs in the US is quite high, and that it is enormously high compared to many countries in the Developing World. Thus, the Developing World represents an enormous untapped market for drugs.

This came to light for me with an article about the number one selling drug in America, Lipitor (for lowering cholesterol), and a "study" designed to show how badly this drug was "needed" in China.  Here is a news report published in the Wall Street Journal in April 2002:

HONOLULU -- The risk of heart attacks and strokes is rising sharply in China, raising the specter of a high-cost public-health crisis in the world's most populous nation.

For the first time at a major Western scientific meeting, researchers are reporting that nearly 30% of adult Chinese have high blood pressure and that one-third have elevated or high cholesterol levels. Nearly 6% of Chinese have diabetes while another 7% have blood-sugar levels indicating they are at risk of developing the disease.

"Everything was much higher than we expected," says Jiang He, a researcher at Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans, and a co-author of several studies describing the prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors in China. Unless the country mounts an aggressive public-health effort to help reduce the risk, "China will expect a cardiovascular-disease epidemic in the very near future," Dr. He says.

The results, based on a survey of 15,540 Chinese adults between 35 and 74 years old, reflect growing concern over how cardiovascular disease -- generally regarded as a malady of Western nations, where it is the leading killer -- is spreading into the developing world. Indeed, heart experts believe the new data underscore how a global pandemic of heart disease is emerging, threatening the health of both the people and the economies of developing nations.

The likely culprit: Westernized living patterns, including smoking, lack of exercise and fast-food diets. At the end of last year, McDonald's Corp. had 430 restaurants in China; Tricon Global Restaurants Inc.'s KFC now has 600.  (source)

On the surface this looks like the makers of Lipitor are forging ahead with opening the Chinese market to the cholesterol lowering drug, Lipitor.

When I had read just a few paragraphs of this story I knew that I was looking at the long-range marketing efforts for the Lipitor people -- the sales of cholesterol-lowering drugs have reached about $10 billion per year in the US.  While that market will undoubtedly grow, it cannot continue to grow with the same double-digit rate of the past.  Any company, even those with JUST a profit motive, would be looking into the long-range future, looking for ways to open up new markets -- markets that might not "mature" for another decade or so.  When you couple the normal free enterprise motivation for profit with the further purpose of "drugging the planet" you can see even more why the Lipitor people would be so eager to spread the drug culture into a place like China.  This Wall Street Journal article is one of the many pieces of evidence collected to support a major article by me, Karl Loren, about the spreading drug culture -- world-wide!  (Click here for the unfinished story on drugging the planet.)

Now I hope the good news is that the Communist Chinese Government is not yet as corrupt as the US Government.  There is no question that here in America both political parties are controlled by the drug companies when it comes to medial policy.

Here is a front page article from the Wall Street Journal, telling a "truth" that is so well accepted that there is no controversy about it:

WASHINGTON -- If Republicans gain control of both houses of Congress in Tuesday's elections, get ready for more tax cuts, a prescription-drug plan for seniors that is favored by the pharmaceutical industry and a renewed push for oil drilling in a pristine Alaskan reserve.

If Democrats grab the reins on Capitol Hill, look for more spending on education and health care, a higher minimum wage and tax cuts aimed at moderate-income workers. (source)

So, the drug companies, just for now, think the Republicans will help them more than the Democrats.  But, you can be sure that the Democrats also get lots of money from the drug industry.

My personal estimation is that the drug industry has not begun to achieve the inroads in China that they have in the US -- and that the Chinese nation is still "safe" from the encroaching drug culture spread by US drug companies.

One reason? The "study" on the Chinese need for Lipitor?  It was NOT sponsored or conducted by the Chinese government, but by an apparent Chinese-American who is undoubtedly in the pay of the drug industry, even if only through his university, which is certainly a puppet for the drug industry.  There are many reports that so-called independent research by the major universities are, in fact, not independent at all -- but are completely controlled by drug company interests.

Medical schools conducting experiments paid for by the drug industry are putting researchers and participants at risk by failing to follow guidelines meant to keep such studies independent and free of bias, according to a study published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The study found that in many cases, research contracts between academic institutions and companies fail to adhere to minimal standards of accountability that were established last year. For instance, the study also found that academic institutions rarely ensure that researchers participate in the design of the clinical trial and control editorial and publication decisions. (source)

The study done of the Chinese need for Lipitor?

It was a corrupted study from the beginning.

Here is an excellent example of how a young man, studying first in China, then in the US, can get himself on the fast track to success and high recognition.  All he has to do is figure out what some drug company, preferably one of the large ones, wants out of "research findings," and then deliver that.  It is even possible that most of his scientific reports are honest, but here is someone who has sold his soul to the devil, in the current case, Pfizer, going to China on their nickel to get the research results that THEY wanted.  And so does Tulane University serve the public trust!

The Communist Chinese government may, or may not know, just how much they are up against when it comes to the war against drugs -- a war they have to win if their nation is ever to reach any of the goals set for it by the government.

I am predicting that Western Medicine will NOT win in China, and that, in enough time, the alternatives now popular in the country-side, and in history, will win out.

Russia and China are interesting examples of areas where the country-side is hardly under Western Medical Control, and where there is a chance that honest health care can develop.

Here is another "straw in the wind" in article just published in South India, The Hindu:

Kochi, Nov 3. (UNI): India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russia on collaboration in the field of Ayurveda teaching, treatment and research as part of the country's efforts at propagating India's traditional systems of medicine abroad.

According to Malati Sinha, Union Health Secretary, department of Indian systems of medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H), Panchkarma and Kshar Sutra were also in the process of being recognised by Russia while Hungary had recognised 40 Ayurvedic drugs and the medical schools in the USA wanted to introduce an ayurvedic module in their medical schools, she said.

Indian teaching institutions like Benaras Hindu University (BHU) and Gujarat Ayurved University (GAU) had entered into MoUs for collaboration in the field of education and research with institutions in Japan, Australia, the Netherlands, Argentina, Italy and USA. (source)

The two tiny pieces of data I have now observed are the results of the Chinese Government-sponsored woman's breast self-exam studies, and the Indian's agreement with Russia to teach Ayurvedic medicine in Russia.  These are tiny pieces of news.  Even though the Indian announcement tried to stretch their news to claim that US schools are also opening up to Ayurvedic teachings, I'll bet a couple nickels that the Ayurveda goes much further in Russia than it ever will in the US.

And, I'll bet a couple nickels that cancer treatments in China will NOT move in the direction of slash/burn/poison that is now the standard in the US.

Thus I see the Developing Countries not yet being in the full grip of Western Drug interests, and particularly not in the grasp of psychiatric treatments -- so that the citizens, the government, are much more free to move in a direction based on honest research and study.

I bring to you, now and here, an approach to preventing cancer that may not do well in this Western setting, but which will be, I predict, the forerunner of modern health care.

We here in America will continue to suffer the old ways. We will seem to be far ahead of Developing Countries and their medical care.  But, my prediction is that they will surpass us because there is more freedom in the area of health research and care THERE than there is HERE.
